Waun lost the toss and were made to play towards the road with a massive wind behind them in the first half. Waun started off well and were soon 6 points up after a couple of penalties (of which there was a lot) thanks to the reliable boot of fly half Rhys Williams. Waun continued to pressurise the Builth try line for the next ten to fifteen minutes but were unable to cross the line. A penalty enabled the home side to kick for the corner and set up a five metre lineout. The take was good and the home side peeled off from the back of the lineout and set up a ruck about 3 metres from the goal line. This pressure was short lived as indiscipline from the home side gifted Builth the free opportunity of clearing their line. Not deterred, Waun soon found themselves back in the Builth 22 and from quick ball, Stuart Fletcher went through the Builth centres to score under the posts. Rhys Williams added the 2 extra points to push Waun 13 points clear of the visitors. An additional penalty later on in the half ensured that the home team went into the interval 16 points up and not having conceded a point.

Builth, now playing with the strong wind at their backs, made better use of the early exchanges to claw back 6 points from two well struck penalties. Builth’s line kicking was poor and allowed the home side plenty of opportunities to attack from deep. Several times Waun broke through the Builth defence only to lack numbers in support to finish the move off. The closest was a great run by centre Matthew Mason that got Waun to with a few metres of the try line only to fall short through lack of numbers. That said Waun closed the game off with another well worked try, with some excellent inter passing scored by veteran second row Daryl Moore that was also converted by fly half Rhys Williams. A very welcome 3 points, lets try to take this forward into next weeks match away to Whitland.
