Report

Waun made several changes following the disappointing performance at Merthyr last week.Returning to the side were Daniel Joseph,Paul Morris,Lee Brooks,,Steffan Jones,Michael Harris and Stuart Fletcher.Luke Jenkins made his debut on the wing.Waun had won at Corus earlier in the season but they had shown significant improvement of late following a change of coach and player recruitment.

Waun started well and took the lead after ten minutes with a penalty by Simon Daniel for offside after some good combined play which tested the Corus defence.As the half wore on,the big Corus forwards began to take control and Waun spent the majority of the time in their own half.After half an hour Stuart Fletcher was yellow carded and Corus took advantage to score a try under the posts after sustained pressure.Following an excellent run by Paul Davies,Corus were penalised and Simon Daniel reduced the deficit to one point.However on half time the visitors went further ahead when a loose tap at a line out on halfway saw the hooker score a try in the corner after taking a pass on the Waun ten yard line.

The forecast rain had now arrived and conditions were deteriorating by the minute.The Waun forwards took a liking to the mud and rain and forced Corus to concede another penalty which was kicked by Simon Daniel.Confidence was now increasing and Paul Davies was nearly over at the posts.With fifteen minutes to go,Ed Bennett won a line out on the Corus 22 and the forwards made it to the try line with Tom Gronow getting the touchdown.

Waun were now leading by two points but five minutes later a box kick by the Corus scrum half was not covered which resulted in a try for the visitors. In a final attempt to win the match Waun moved the ball acoss the field on halfway but a pass was intercepted and Corus scored a try under the posts which gave them victory and a bonus point.

This was another match which could have been won, and let us hope that the improvement will continue next week when Waun vist our friends and fellow strugglers Dunvant.
