13th October 2007: Waunarlwydd V Tonmawr
Played: Away
Result: Lost 45 - 0
Report
After a two week break for the World Cup,we travelled to the home of the league leaders for arguably the most diificult match of the season.Gethin Lillicrap returned on the wing replacing the injured Paul Davies which was the only change from the starting XV against Dunvant, while Tonmawr fielded former Waunarlwydd players Darren Griffiths,Lee Gunnell and Mervyn Meredith and coached by Jason Hyatt.
The first fifteen minutes were played mainly in the Tonmawr half with Lee Jones missing a penalty. However, the next fifteen minutes were crucial as Simon Evans and Daniel Joseph were both sent to the sin bin and Tonmawr scored two converted tries with one by the former Neath full back Gareth Morris after a fine run evading several tackles.Lee Jones missed a second penalty before a further try from a forward drive followed, and despite some strong preesure from Waun before haf time, they were unable to cross the line so trailed 21-0 at the break.
The second half was obviously going to be difficult for Waun and a pushover try was conceded after five minutes.Three further tries followed with two from Gareth Morris to complete his hat trick.Waun's only chance of a score came from a run by Stuart Fletcher which was halted in the Tonmawr 22.
This was Tonmawr's fourth win out of four and are clearly the team to beat in this division.Waun's commitment could not be faulted but they were beaten by a well organised side who will inflict similar results on several future opponents. As far as Waun are concerned,it is Whitland at home next Saturday with the chance to maintain our place in the top half of the league.
