For the first away game of the season,Waun were forced into a number of changes.In the backs,Gethin Lillicrap and Matthew Mason were injured and Michael Harris unavailable,and were replaced by Paul Davies,Lee Jones and Matthew Watts.Up front,Steffan Jones started at hooker with Paul Morris at No. 8.

In warm conditions,the home side started well and were three points up after seven minutes thanks to a penalty.Waun slowly got into the game,and after twenty minutes a fine run by Matthew Watts following a line out on the Corus 22 saw a converted try from Steffan Jones.A drop goal and apenalty followed from Lee Jones so Waun led 13-3 after half an hour.Even better was to come on half time when Corus failed to deal with a kick into their half and Lee Joneskicked ahead and won the race to the line and converted ,so Waun led 20-3 at half time.

The opening twenty minutes of the second half saw Corus have a lot of possession but the only scores were two penalty goals. Shortly afterwards a rare Waun attack featuring a fine run from Stuart Fletcher resulted in a penalty kicked by John Lewis.At fourteen ponts ahead with fifteen minutes to go Waun were in a good position but the remainder of the match was spent almost solely in their own half.Lee Brookes was sin binned,but Corus's only reward for almost constant presuure was a corner try and a last minute penalty leaving Waun winners at the final whistle.

There is no game next Saturday due to the Wales/Australia match,but the league programme will resume on September 22 when we host Dunvant.
